Since summer 2022, you can enjoy the famous BILSTEIN driving feel in your camper van. Our camper van and motorhome shock absorbers BILSTEIN B6 Camper and B6 Camper Advanced make it possible. They are available for panel vans and semi-integrated motorhomes on the platform of the Fiat Ducato (from model year 2006) and the largely identical vehicles from Citroën and Peugeot.

The high level of demand proves that we have found the nerve of the scene with these products right from the start. The trade press is also enthusiastic, as the positive summary by the motorhome magazine promobil shows. Germany’s oldest and Europe’s largest motorhome magazine had chosen the BILSTEIN B6 Camper Advanced to present as part of an extensive trial.

BILSTEIN motorhome shock absorbers in endurance test

We were allowed to install our camper van shock absorbers in the Malibu Van 640 LE RB endurance tester, a converted panel van based on the current Fiat Ducato. We then took the motorhome out for a test drive on the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track, where our well-known BILSTEIN driving test also takes place. The capabilities of the BILSTEIN B6 Camper Advanced were also tested on public roads in the surrounding area. We have summarized the most important facts for our readers below.

Everyone was eager to see the result, because after all, even the normal B6 Camper offers a safety plus in crosswinds and in corners, as well as a more intense and comfortable driving experience. The B6 Camper Advanced also offers two different characteristic curves between which it switches automatically. Our DampMatic technology makes it possible. In simplified terms, the amplitude-selective system works on the basis of a bypass system. This is closed or opened by a control piston according to the vibrations transmitted by the road. As the resistance for the oil inside the damper varies, its setting becomes softer or firmer.

Significant improvement in driving comfort

But would they really be able to see such a big difference? After all, the endurance tester was a true behemoth of a motorhome. With a total weight of 3,443 kilograms including load, it could barely be driven with a normal passenger car driver’s licence.

“All the more astonishing how the 6.36-meter-long camper van calmed down on nasty bumps, on which it previously bounced all the way. Even with absurd steering movements on a closed-off test track, it works, bringing the 2.6 meter high car significantly less out of balance than before.”

says editor Heiko P. Wacker

The professional’s summary of our new high-performance shock absorbers: “And rolling comfort over cobblestones or concrete edges also improves pleasingly. In the original trim, you simply notice that the Fiat is a commercial vehicle; even minor undulations in the road cause it to chug and vibrate. After the conversion, this is no longer an issue, not only the furniture in the rear appreciate it!”

promobil also reported a more direct and precise steering response. The euphoria about the B6 Camper Advanced continued even after 4,000 kilometers had been driven. “According to the testers, the installation of the Bilstein special shock absorbers at 26,000 kilometers proved their worth, providing a noticeable increase in driving comfort,” is the conclusion published on the Internet about the endurance tester.
